Kayla

Kayla. Beautiful. Her vision of cowgirl boots and a dress in a field had me looking forward to this session. And with surprising weather resulting in some awesome gray cloudy skies, I captured some amazing moments. This was such a cool high school senior session.

Kier

It’s high school senior portrait season again! I am finishing up posting some of my seniors from last year and looking forward to some really cool senior portraits in Valdosta this year!

Announcing – Baby Cormick

One man and one woman who’ve been waiting for their child
plus
One child who was waiting for the perfect parents
equals
one family that was meant to be

Julie and Greg allowed me to to help them celebrate the adoption of their son, Cormick, with an absolutely creative photo shoot.  I stayed in their home, turning it into a working studio for two days, and basically photographed to my heart’s content. And then they let me have total freedom in designing the coolest baby announcement ever.

I’m so honored to have been part of this process with Julie and Greg – helping them build their adoption portfolio and life book by photographing them as a couple, following Julie on her journey to the west coast when she went to pick up her son, following her facebook posts when her husband came back from his 6 month deployment a few weeks later and held his son for the first time. And then, finally, being able to photograph them as a family.

Julie is one of those people who knows everybody! And some of the responses she’s been getting about the baby announcement are worth sharing, as is the baby announcement itself. Of course we geared it to be more of an adoption announcement than a birth announcement, but the effect is the same – celebrating joy and parenthood and little 7 week old Cormick.  As Julie says, “what’s meant to be will always find its way”. And it did.

Enjoy the announcement, a trifold printed on linen paper.

And definitely check out the comments below it! For more images from the session, go to http://www.jacquelynnbuck.com/portraitblog/cormick

Tracy & Brent

A lot of shadows and edgy lighting in this couples session done in Valdosta, GA. But I really love how they turned out! Definitely suits this couple.

Sara in Savannah

Not so long ago I blogged about the concept of finding my 1000 fans (as read and loosely translated from Dane Sander’s book “Fast Track Photographer”). The concept (as I’ve adopted it) is this – somewhere in the world I (and every other entrepreneur perhaps) have fans that I either know or have yet to discover. These are people who completely love and support what I do. These are friends and family, yes, but also friends of friends, or family of friends, all with whom my work resonates. And these fans follow my work…they comment, are interested, are supportive, and sometimes even go that extra mile to say – “you know what? I love your work so much that I want you to photograph me”. Sometimes they fly me to where they are (like last May when my friend Kelli flew me to Ojai, CA to photograph her daughter), sometimes I travel back to a place I’ve lived and they book me and then their friends book me the next time I visit, and sometimes I meet them at some agreed upon location, both of us going the distance to connect. However we find each other, the result is always the same – a stranger who becomes a fan who becomes a friend. I am not afraid to say that I am not the right photographer for everyone – we can never be everything to every one. Instead I strive to be authentic to who I am, what I love, and do so with creativity, enthusiasm and just a slightly off center approach. And when that speaks to people -when I can speak my language to others and know they understand – I know I’ve met one of my 1000 fans. And life is good. And someday, when I know all my 1000 fans, and they continue to follow me and use and refer my services, I will have accomplished so much.

Sara is perhaps one of those 1000 – she found me through a friend of mine, but that person was someone she didn’t really know. And she began following my blog. And then she decided to contact me about helping her set up her blog. So for several weeks we worked together to get her started (if you’re interested, visit www.saramerrick.com). In the course of conversations (3000 miles and 3 hours apart) she mentioned she would be flying from CA to visit her daughter in Savannah this month. And she also mentioned that she would love to have me spend some time photographing them, but also photographing the city that is the setting for her novel Miss Eugenia’s Ghost Tours of Savannah. Of course I agreed! And so this weekend I met a stranger who became a friend, and had a wonderful time. And, oh right, also managed to get some amazing photos of them (see below) and the city (see my Journey Blog).

I think they make such a striking mother-daughter pair!

natural laughter is the best!

sometimes the best part of the day is the crazy things I ask my clients to do! Memories in the making.

Missy, Brian, Ben & Sam

Missy is a friend from college who now has two adorable boys – Sam (2 1/2) and Ben (5 months)  – and a wonderful husband (Brian). I am thrilled to be able to photograph them whenever I get the chance and on my recent car trip to Dayton and PA, I came back to GA via NC, where they live. I was able to spend a few hours using the natural light in their home to get this slightly unique series, most of which I’ve decided look better in black and white.

Casual Captures – Family

love these lovely kids. so cute! Emma and Joey are the children of my grade school friend Mary and her husband Scott. I just love having the chance to photograph them.

fun with mom!

awww : )

Cormick

So excited about little Cormick’s session because I got to exercise my creativity, try things I’ve had on my mind, and even managed to get the child into those really crazy sling things that are so cute but take so much patience and trust on behalf of the parents. So thanks Julie and Greg, for letting me do what I do and taking the time it takes to get the images that make an impact!

Oh Baby!

Seven-week old Xavier was amazing! Holding his head up, alert, and totally cute!

Stacey

I love getting creative, and really enjoy it when the models do too!  Both sessions were awesome. Both girls came to the shoot with some great ideas (heart balloon? really? cool!), some creative outfits (vinyl? polka-dots? absolutely!), and most importantly a willingness to be totally open to whatever (railroad tracks? 25 degrees? snowing? 7 inch heels? you betcha!). I got some really interesting and fun images. Here are just a few from my early review. Enjoy!!
