Sweet Ride

There’s nothing I won’t try when it comes to photography. I’ve said yes to almost everything. Once. And there are things that after having said yes, I’ve decided I won’t ever do again….not for any amount of money : ) but this isn’t one of those situations. This is cool. This is killer. This is one sweet ride.

I don’t pretend to know anything about cars. Not even a little. I can turn them on, drive them, fill them up with gas, and diagnose a warning light using the manual. But that’s about it. I confess I don’t even know how to change a tire (sad thing to admit for this generally empowered woman). But, as it turns out, I can photograph cars, and enjoy it. I love the angles, the geometry, the ability to put my 20mm lens to use capturing the nuances of the sleek and sophisticated, catching the interior, exterior and engine with equal interest, getting creative with location and ambient light.

So here’s my first real attempt – a poster I designed from photos I took for a neighbor to display at an upcoming car show. Motor heads, eat your hearts out.

Unexpected

sometimes the key to loving every minute of every moment that I’m working is not just rolling with the unexpected, but learning to love it. To take the lemons and make, well, lemon drop martinis. My favorite images always come when I least expect them, and when what I’m trying to do just. won’t. work. Which just goes to show you that you’ve just got to let it roll. And laugh while it happens. ; )

Kelsey & Chris {Happily Ever After}

I’m trying a little something new with my wedding posts by including images that are larger rather than galleries…feedback? Better or worse? : )

In the mean time, meet Kelsey + Chris…this awesome couple tied the knot on March 31, 2012 at Lakes Chapel and Clubhouse in Lake Park GA. And what an incredible wedding! The rain that poured down at noon disappeared, leaving only the sun, just in time for everything (what a relief!) and allowing the details to shine. And oh the details. Kelsey’s creative touch was apparent everywhere – from the handmade signs, to the table decorations, to the tulle petticoat in her favorite color – purple! Chris brought his own attention to detail and nostalgia by wearing his grandfather’s dog tags, a WWII military medal, and carrying the lovingly inscribed pocket watch that Kelsey had given him the day before.

Because creative photography was a must for this couple, we carved out time before the ceremony for the first look and some fun shots like the swings!, right at sunset (for some of my favorite images from the day!) and then partway through the reception for some really cool night shots. And yes, they even got onto the ground, in a field, in their wedding best, for a few adventurous moments.

As day faded into dusk, the reception site transformed into a fairytale glade of twinkling lights (hand strung by Kelsey and her helpers the day before) giving everything a magical feel. Much dancing (and some cigar smoking) ensued and the sparkler send-off capped the night, ushering Kelsey and Chris forward, together, hand and hand into their future.

Congratulations Kelsey + Chris! It was such a pleasure getting to know (and photograph) you over this last year! May you truly have a happily ever after!

Meet the Seredni Family!

It’s a funny story how we met. In the military, it always is! The Seredni family lived next door to us here in Valdosta for a few short months before they moved to ABQ. In that time we were brand new here and I essentially slipped my business card to Shaun through the slats of our shared fence-line. Not too much later Courtney and Shaun brought their newborn daughter, Ann, into my studio. And the rest was history! And now, one more daughter later, we’ve reconnected in ABQ! I just love it when things work out : ) and I love this family! Bring on the pink!

I love dinner parties. The conversation. The food. The unique mixing of personalities. I love being the hostess, running around making sure everyone has something, watching people enjoy, connect, eat. And I especially love when day turns to dusk and the guests linger over dessert, when the cognac, pipes and cigars come out and the warm timbre of male voices, broken occasionally by the giggle of a child or the laughter of a woman, rise into the night on a fragrant cloud of smoke. There’s a warm glow that permeates these moments. Moments to celebrate. Moments to mark. Moments to remember.

have you ever met a couple who are just so joyous together that you can’t help but smile the whole time you’re with them? I have. And now you have, too. Meet Dori and Allen. Still in love after a wonderfully long marriage, and so fun and energetic and just, well, filled with joy, that I couldn’t help smiling out loud (you know what I mean) when I was photographing them, and then, again, when I was going back through the pictures. Dori, Allen, you guys were amazing to work with. Thank you for a phenomenal session and for braving the wicked wind and the 50 degree temps and laughing through it all!
