Carter: Newborn Photography

I’ve been photographing a lot of newborns lately – but none are as special as the ones I was able to capture of my nephew, Carter. We didn’t plan for an elaborate newborn session – in fact, Jay and Krystal weren’t even sure they were up for photos when I got there. But I really thought it was important to photograph Carter while he was so very little, because the next time I see him I know he’ll be sooo much bigger. Krystal wanted to build a few special books into the newborn photographs and the baby’s nursery has a fox and forest theme so we had to include the fox in one! Krystal’s mom was also there so we did a 3 generations hand photo (I love building grandmoms into newborn photos!), and even though Jay and Krystal didn’t want to be in the photos, I still took some of their hands as well. Love!

Even though Carter was a preemie, and very small, he graduated from the NICU in less than 5 days and was home and has been growing and gaining weight like a champ. Having a preemie can be scary, and we waited almost 3 weeks for photos because he was so very little, but 3 weeks was perfect. And even though he’s tiny, he is fierce!
