Scarlett + Grant {Tucson maternity Session}

Part One of this epic maternity session found us amid the high desert and felt a little like Alice in Wonderland with Scarlett living up to her name in this fantastic red maternity dress. It was a little bit of an overcast day which contributed to the slightly darker vibe, but for no less of a joyous location. Sometimes it’s just cool to do something a little different. I love using my Profoto lights when natural light isn’t an option. It allows for some wonderful shadows and light and when set correctly can really bring out the mood of a session. It especially creates dramatic light for maternity sessions! I used natural light for a few of these – can you tell which ones?

Another cool thing about this type of session is that, in Tucson, we have a lot of really interesting trees. We don’t get many that look as old as the one pictured below, but when Scarlett saw that tree she knew she wanted a photo by it, and it turned out to be just right for the setting and mood of these photos.

One of the things I always do for clients is have a discussion with them about location, clothing and vibe for a session in order to best prepare. Scarlett and Grant knew they wanted something outdoors, but not in the desert (I photographed their engagement session in the desert) but they also wanted to do something on the flight line since Grant works for the National Guard and Southwest. So we decided to do both! See Part Two of this maternity session here!

And also, see their newborn session here!
