Tucson Desert Maternity Photos

These Tucson desert maternity photos were just delightful. The Saguaro, the light, the flowers in bloom, the itty bitty cowboy boots …all the feels! I love doing maternity sessions in the desert. And these Tucson desert maternity photos were at my favorite location – Saguaro National Park East. I love the dreamy feel the location and the light give to these. But then I ALSO love when I am able to use my Profoto light (in this case, I used only the Profoto A1 with no modifier) to create more dramatic images.

I just love mixing dramatic, bold light and soft, dreamy light for Tucson desert maternity photos. The desert sun can be really harsh if you aren’t photographing at the best time of day, so I look for natural shade or places where the sun filters through the rocks or mountains, or is blocked by a cactus, and fill in the shadows with light I bring with me. I also incorporate sunlight directly into the image and turn it into glowing back light. Both have the desired effect of beautiful maternity photos! I always encourage the couple getting their maternity photos to bring something special to the session to add in that will remind them of the moment – whether it’s a Sonogram photo or a little outfit that you want to bring the baby home from the hospital in, or little shoes. This couple elected to bring baby Cowboy boots! How cute is that? And so perfect for the Tucson cowboy culture. Just think how cute he’ll be when he gets to wear them?
