D Family {NC Destination Family Portrait Session}

Whenever I get the chance to do a destination family portrait session, I jump at it. Travel is one of my joys, but it’s also one of the things that feeds my business. And when I travel, I maximize the time I have by doing it alllll. Or trying to. So when clients of mine hired me to photograph their wedding in Charlotte in November, I took the opportunity to reach out to one of my longest running clients who lives in Raleigh and see if they wanted a portrait session. The answer was a resounding YES. Makes my heart happy. 🙂 And bonus that it was fall in NC (which, yes, comes late in the year).

We decided to do their family portrait session at the Historic Yates Mill, which was crawling with people and photographers on this Saturday after Thanksgiving. But I was able to find the light I wanted and position the family in relationship to, while eliminating other people from the photos. No small feat, but definitely a successful endeavor.

One of the things that I value is Legacy. It’s part of why I do what I do. I want to gift my families with a legacy they can gift to their children and beyond. So when I can follow families for many years, I can help them build that legacy.

Missy and her family have been with me since the oldest was born. That’s almost 11 years. 11 years of destination family portrait sessions, almost annually, because we have never lived in the same place, but they value the work I do for them so much that if we can intersect, they are willing to wait. And of course I value that I can trace their photo sessions back to when the oldest was in diapers. I think that’s pretty cool.

Here is what Missy has to say:

“We have been using Jacquelynn Buck for our family photographs for almost 11 years now, and I sincerely wouldn’t want anybody else to take them.  She has an artist’s eye, and I love her use of light, both natural and artificial.  She is great at helping us all to relax during the shoot and has a knack for capturing our most natural and genuine smiles, which is especially difficult with young children!  I also appreciate her use of creative posing which provides the most flattering angles.  She is decisive and efficient.  The photoshoots do not drag, and yet I always have so many beautiful photographs to choose from.  I highly recommend Jacquelynn to anybody looking to hire a quality photographer.”
